Mark Shepard’s 39 years in education
Fremont, Neb. – (Apr. 30, 2025) Fremont Public Schools is announcing an open house to celebrate the retirement of Mark Shepard as Superintendent of Fremont Public Schools. Shepard is retiring after 39 years of service in education.
The open house will be held on Monday, May 19, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Fremont High School Career & Technical Education Center. Refreshments will be served.
Shepard has served Fremont Public Schools for a total of 25 years. He began in Fremont in 1995 as the Assistant Superintendent/Executive Director of Business and Operations and remained in that role until 2008, when he was named the Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs for Lincoln Public Schools. Shepard returned to Fremont in 2013 as the Associate Superintendent and became the Superintendent, replacing Dr. Steve Sexton in 2014.
Brad Dahl, associate superintendent, stated, “We appreciate the work Mark has accomplished at Fremont Public Schools over his career - his leadership and commitment to FPS and the community will be missed.”
