National SkillsUSA Competitors

Fremont, Neb. – (Jul. 8, 2025) Six Fremont High School students and one advisor recently attended the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from June 23-28, 2025. The students were the State Champions of their competition from the Nebraska State Skills and Leadership conference, and to showcase their skills in representing Fremont High School and Nebraska in their respective competitions.  

Levi DeBoer competed in Carpentry where he had to construct several walls made of wood and steel and build several roof systems that resembled a roof with a dormer in it.  He placed 17th out of 49 high school competitors.

Bella Garcia competed in Masonry where she had to construct a U shaped wall 15 courses of CMU and Brick with a decorative inlay.  She placed 20th out of 30 high school competitors.  

Emely Garcia competed in Welding, where she had to construct 5 different projects that showcased her welding abilities using  MIG, TIG, ARC, O/A Cutting and Plasma Cutting processes.  She placed 21st out of 48 high school competitors.  

Chase Lupton, Jackson Schutt and Brayden Porter competed in Welding fabrication where a team of 3 used MIG, TIG and O/A cutting processes to build a sand box excavator.  They placed 9th out of 40 high school competitors.

The conference drew over 18,000 participants, including students, teachers, administrators, and industry partners. The conference includes the SkillsUSA Championships, the largest technical education trade show in the nation (TECHSPO), leadership training, workshops, seminars, and a community service project. Students that competed were champions at the state level in over 107 different trade, technical, and leadership areas with opportunities to earn medallions, scholarships, tools, and even job offers. Nearly 2,000 industry volunteers contribute to the competitions, judging and mentoring students, according to the SkillsUSA website. U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer acknowledged the talent and future promise of the skilled workforce represented at the conference

The success of the Fremont High School SkillsUSA chapter is attributed to the hard work and dedication of the students, advisors, and skilled trades experts who have worked tirelessly to help train and support the chapter. The chapter would like to thank all of our local partners including Metropolitan Community College, Rob Hocking, parents, teachers, and donors for their time, resources, and expertise that help our students be so successful.
